Julie, I have learned from experience that all rice except for prepared rice such as parboiled or seasoned rice, should be rinsed in water first before cooking. My first time cooking rice without rinsing in water was finding sand as I bit into each bite. This was the great value brand but it could be the same result with any brand.

I like to put my butter in the freezer for a few minutes and put it through the shredder. It makes it more even.

If you want boxed Mac and cheese with a different pasta shape, just buy the regular box. Weigh the amount of pasta that comes in the box and substitute an equal weight of the shape you prefer (spirals, shells, bowties, etc.) Et voilá, you have "fancy" Mac and cheese! Of, course, save the pasta that came with the box for other uses. Love your videos, although most recipes are too large for me as a single person.

For those of you who dont buy nonstick but have butter around, my grandmother would save butter wrappers and use them to grease pans! (I grew up doing this to grease and flour cake pans)

I get my hamburger at Sam’s club. 10 lb roll of 90/10 for $45. It’s such great hamburger. $3 less per pound than buying at Walmart

I can’t do generic Mac n cheese. But a 5 pack is usually $4.50 where I live so it’s not too bad.

My Walmart is way higher than this one. The stores in my area are ridiculous in price. ( I live in a very small town with little to no competition.) I’m aware this was two years ago but still the prices are way higher than here. I think it’s time to move. I’ve always noticed places that I vacate to have way lower food prices. Plus around here nothing is ever on sale. It might say so but it’s just marked up at that time to look like it. Food prices are insane now. I truly don’t understand how people make it with a family. We make decent money and it’s still a struggle. I couldn’t imagine being a college student or working a minimum wage job right now.
